On the plane I go,
chasing a brighter future
along a sunlit coast.
Young and ambitious,
I find my seat
in the middle row.
Five hours into the flight,
I wake.
The sun is gone.
The cabin sleeps
to the steady hum
of four roaring engines
above an endless ocean.
Further into the black.
Ding.
The captain’s voice breaks the silence.
“Strong storm ahead”
Static.
The engines fall silent.
A violent crack whips.
The plane drops.
Screams erupt,
my hopes and dreams
an ocean away.
Then… Silence. The aircraft steadies. I look left and Right, no one.
Darkness swallows the cabin.
Lightning flickers,
revealing haunting figures
appearing, disappearing,
until only a scarecrow’s stare remains.
I run, I pound on the cockpit door.
This memory is my shadow,
it never lands.
