A soild line of authority. Big red lights commanding me to stop. red light on a dark rain night. Strangers At The Red Light Poem By Callum Ashworth.

Strangers At The Red Light

My mind is sharp and my thoughts are hazy,
to them I seem crazy.
For me it’s another day on the job and today I’m surrounded by fog.
I have my high beams on and they are guiding me through this heavy smog.

Ahead one lane turns into three, just above big red lights command me.
A solid line of authority edging closer and closer towards me.
The forward momentum carrying me sharply decreases rapidly, until I aggressively come to halt.

Further behind glowing headlights trail me from behind
Flooding my mind and fuelling my fear.
I being to feel anxious when they draw near.
Cautiously, gripping on the wheel. Who could it be that might appear?

Under the glowing red light I have strangers to my left and to the right.
The silence grew louder than the roaring engines.
It was as if the streetlight turned into a spotlight.
A judging sight filled with fright in a minute that felt like a whole night.
